As I write this, it's already hot outside. I'm just starting my second glass of water for the day and feeling refreshed.
Alot of people say that water is tasteless, bland and boring but for me personally, if you offer me a glass of coke or a glass of water, i'll take water all day long. In fact, i'm such a fan of drinking water on it's own that I sound like a broken record when it comes to telling my clients how much to drink. It's beneficial for so many reasons
Got a headache? drink some water.
Feeling hungry? drink some water.
Did you know that your body is around 70% water? You need water in order to live and if you don't have enough, then your body will cry out for it in so many different ways.
Have you found yourself having a bout of constipation? You're probably not drinking enough water.
Headaches and tiredness? Again, probably not enough water.
1. Water can help clear the skin
Water can help improve your complexion as it helps to moisturise you skin. After just 21 days of drinking water, people notice a HUGE difference in their complexion.
2. Water can help with constipation
If you are a slimmer who suffers from bouts of constipation, then have a look at how much water you're drinking before you resort to laxatives.
I'm not a fan of laxatives as prolonged use can make the bowel lazy. However, water really can help aide digestion. Why? Lets look at it this way.
When we don't drink enough water, our body tries to get water from somewhere and as food is stored as wet in our gut, the body dries it out leading to stools becoming rock hard and making it hard for you to pass.
3. Reduces hunger/cravings
How many times have you felt hungry even though you ate not so long ago?
The truth is that you may just be thirsty. We can easily mistake the feelings of thirst for hunger causing us to eat more. If you start to feel peckish, try having a glass of water instead. If, after 30 minutes you still genuinely feel hungry, then have something to eat but 9 times out of 10, your body really wants water instead of food.
Water can fill your stomach and can easily become a natural appetite suppressant. So if you have a glass of water just before you eat dinner, you'll naturally find you eat less too.
4. Relieves tiredness
If you're having a mid afternoon slump, go grab yourself a cold glass of water. It helps boost your energy levels by making you feel more alert.
5. Helps with toxin elimination
If you regularly suffer from Urinary tract infections (UTI's), then try drinking more water. Water is fantastic at helping your body eliminate waste through sweat and urination.
6. Can help with headaches
I used to get horrible headaches that if I didn't catch in time, would turn into a migraine. I have found that with drinking water, I am having less headaches and rarely turn to paracetamol now.
Not all but some headaches can be caused by dehydration. Drinking little and often is a great way of keeping those headaches away.
7. Helps with motivation
They say you are what you eat. Well the same goes with what you drink too!
If you start your day by having a glass of water, not only is it helping you feel fuller (meaning you'll be less likely to snack) but it's helping plant the psychological seeds of self care. What I mean by that is that you are more likely to make healthier choices for yourself through out the day if you choose water over a can of full fat coke (for example).
